Description
Basil is a wonderful aromatic plant, particularly appreciated in Mediterranean cuisine. It is a plant that has always been present in gardens and on balconies in the Greek countryside, but also in cities.
Basil has been used as a spice since ancient times in Greece and Rome, thanks to its strong and distinctive aroma.
The Romans brought basil from tropical Asia. Theophrastus and Pedanius Dioscorides often refer to basil in their writings.
The name basil comes from the Greek word "basileus" and means king. Mediterranean basil, also known as Greek or mountain basil, has smaller leaves than the Asian variety and a more delicate aroma.
We harvest the leaves and flowers of organic Greek basil so that it can also be enjoyed as a decoction.
Basil supports the digestive system, improves digestion and facilitates the absorption of nutrients from food. It prevents stomach cramps and stimulates the secretion of gastric juice.
