Greco bay leaves (laurus nobilis) 20g ORGANIC
Description
Bay leaf is an aromatic spice originating from the Mediterranean region, commonly used in Mediterranean cuisine. It is used to season meat, soups and sauces.
The name comes from Greek mythology, from the name of the nymph Laura, with whom the god Apollo was in love. The nymph Daphne (Laura in Latin) was the daughter of the river god Peneus and the earth goddess Gaia. The god Apollo fell in love with her, but the nymph did not return his feelings and avoided his advances. Daphne asked her mother Gaia for help. When Apollo embraced Daphne, she turned into a laurel tree. Apollo, overcome with grief, broke a branch from the laurel tree, wove it into a wreath and adorned his head with it. From then on, the laurel leaf became the sacred plant of Apollo.
The laurel leaf was cultivated in ancient Rome and Greece. Wreaths of laurel leaves were used to decorate the foreheads of Olympic victors.
