Description
Lavender is a popular herb found in Southern Europe. It grows in dry and sunny places.
The word lavender comes from the Latin word "lavare", which means to wash or clean. In ancient Greece and Rome, it was used for bathing and washing.
Lavender flowers contain essential oil, which has been used since ancient times to treat nervous disorders. In the Middle Ages, it was used to protect against plagues. In folk herbal medicine, it is used in bedding and clothing as a natural moth repellent.
It is commonly used in the cosmetics and perfume industry. The oil is used for massage, bathing, inhalation and aromatherapy. In Mediterranean cuisine, it is used as a seasoning for meat, game, mutton and salads. Lavender infusion is used for digestive problems.
