Very High Bioactivity Olive Oils – Ultra Premium High Phenolic EVOO Rich in Oleocanthal and Oleacein (D1: 1001–2000 mg/kg)
This category includes ultra premium high phenolic extra virgin olive oils with exceptionally high concentrations of bioactive phenols and a D1 Index between 1001–2000 mg/kg.
The D1 Index is based on the combined concentration of oleocanthal and oleacein — the most important anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective phenolic compounds naturally present in olive oil.

What is the D1 Bioactivity Index?
The D1 Bioactivity Index represents the combined concentration of oleocanthal and oleacein — the two most important anti-inflammatory phenolic compounds naturally present in extra virgin olive oil.
Unlike standard “total polyphenol” values, the D1 Index focuses specifically on the phenolic compounds most closely associated with the characteristic peppery sensation, anti-inflammatory activity and biological functionality of premium EVOO.
The D1 value is included in every NMR laboratory analysis available for our high phenolic olive oils.
D1 Index vs EU Health Claim 432/2012
The European Health Claim EU 432/2012 is based on the total concentration of hydroxytyrosol and its derivatives and requires a minimum of 250 mg/kg polyphenols for the approved health claim related to protection of blood lipids from oxidative stress.
The D1 Bioactivity Index is a separate parameter and is not part of the official EU health claim regulation. Instead, it is used as an advanced indicator of olive oil bioactivity and anti-inflammatory potential.
