Poteus Premium Pine Honey from Serres 950g Organic
Description
Poteus is the Kostis Family’s organic farm, located in the village of Pethelinos in Serres, Greek Macedonia — a place of exceptional, unspoilt natural beauty, where the traditions of olive growing and beekeeping stretch back generations. The name Poteus derives from the ancient Greek word meaning ‘Lord’ — a Phrygian epithet for Zeus himself. It is to this heritage and this land that Kostis’s Family owes its premium-quality products.
The Poteus apiary is nestled amongst certified organic olive groves, far from pollution, intensive farming and pesticides. The bees gather nectar exclusively from wild, natural blooms and the forests of Greek Macedonia — a region with an exceptionally clean environment and rich biodiversity. The result is honey with an exquisite taste, a unique aroma and excellent quality, the likes of which you won’t find in mass-produced products.
Every jar reaches the customer completely unprocessed — exactly as nature intended. These are top-quality Greek organic honeys that fully reflect the taste and aroma of the Greek countryside.
Organic certification — what it means and why it matters
Poteus honeys hold the organic certification BIO 1204806 | GR-BIO-18, issued by the independent certification body COSMOCERT, accredited by the Hellenic Accreditation System (E.SY.D.) in accordance with EU Regulation 2018/848. Organic certification means that the bees live exclusively in areas free from pesticides and chemicals, the feed comes from certified organic sources, and production is subject to regular inspections and laboratory testing — including analysis of plant protection product residues using LC Q-TOF and GC-MS/MS methods for over 800 active substances. Poteus honey has passed these tests without any prohibited substances being detected. This is a guarantee of purity that no conventional honey can offer.
Types of honey available
Blossom honey — a sweet honey with a delicate, soothing aroma and mild flavour. It supports the proper functioning of the digestive system, has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, and boosts energy and stamina. It crystallises naturally — restoring it to a liquid state by gently heating it in a bain-marie does not affect its properties.
Pine honey — a honey with low sweetness and a rich, spicy aroma, with a characteristic colour depending on the harvest period. Sourced in Serres and on the island of Thassos. Exceptionally rich in phenols, minerals, antioxidants and trace elements: protocatechuic, caffeic, vanillic and p-coumaric acids, calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc. It exhibits strong anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and healing properties.
Oak honey — a thick, dark honey with an intense, rich aroma and a caramel flavour, with a distinct woody note and low sweetness. The honey with the strongest antioxidant effect of all types. It has a soothing effect on colds and disorders of the intestines and urinary tract. It contains large amounts of potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron and sodium.
Fir honey — a thick honey of exceptional quality with a beautiful, dark amber-red colour and a rich flavour with low sweetness. Thanks to its low natural sugar content, it hardly crystallises at all. Rich in trace elements: potassium, magnesium, phosphorus and iron. Particularly recommended for pregnant women and those with iron deficiency.
Chestnut honey — a honey with an exceptionally rich, distinctive flavour, featuring a bitter, lingering aftertaste and an intense aroma. Light brown or dark reddish in colour. Harvested at altitudes above 1,000 metres above sea level in the Karadere massif in Drama and on the third peninsula of Halkidiki — beneath Mount Athos. Rich in trace elements and minerals.
Reiki honey (heather / sousoura) — a honey with a mild, reddish or dark colour, characteristic of the autumn heather flower (sousoura). During crystallisation, it acquires a unique, buttery texture. It has beneficial effects on health, physical well-being, relaxation and peace of mind — the same healing properties as the heather plant from which it originates.
Limited Reserve Honey — Ultra Rare — a unique, limited-edition organic honey harvested at an altitude of 1,600 metres above sea level in Greece’s largest forest, the Elatia / Kara Dere massif. It contains a unique, natural blend of fir, lime, chestnut and oak honey — a unique composition determined by the bees themselves during the harvest, depending on the dates, temperatures and which trees were secreting honeydew at that moment. It is a diversity that will likely never be repeated in exactly the same form. Each jar is hand-numbered — a collector’s item for true connoisseurs.
Poteus is not just honey — the Kostis's Family farm is also renowned for its ultra-premium extra virgin olive oil, rich in polyphenols, and repeatedly certified and award-winning. Poteus olive oils are among the richest in polyphenols in the world — with a content reaching 1576 mg/kg — and hold a health certificate in accordance with EU Regulation 432/2012.
