Description
8K Extra Virgin Olive Oil 500 ml
Origin and tradition
Athinoelia is one of Greece’s oldest olive varieties, grown in the southern Peloponnese, in the Monemvasia region (Lakonia), at an altitude of approx. 300 m above sea level. The family responsible for the cultivation uses only natural fertilisers (including sheep manure), mechanical harvesting in late October–early November, and pressing on the same day in a small, two-stage press using the cold-press method.
Flavour profile and nutritional values
The oil is characterised by a well-balanced, complex organoleptic profile. Its fruitiness is rated at 5.4/10, bitterness at 3.8/10, and pungency at 4.4/10. The aroma is dominated by notes of freshly cut grass and citrus; hints of spices, green walnut and a delicate touch of pepper are also detectable. The high oleocanthal content (approx. 112–134 ppm) gives it a characteristic, slightly peppery finish. Polyphenols often exceed 360 mg/kg, whilst acidity remains very low (approx. 0.28%), which attests to the product’s excellent freshness and quality.
Culinary uses
This olive oil is ideal for use raw – in salads, on bread, with fresh vegetables, fish and Mediterranean dishes. Thanks to its elegant flavour and deep aroma, it also pairs perfectly with desserts and cheeses, highlighting their natural character.
Awards and quality
The product was honoured in the 8K Greek Olive Oils 2025 programme as the best Athinoelia variety olive oil, receiving the highest possible rating. It is considered one of the purest single-variety olive oils from southern Greece, appreciated by both sommeliers and individual customers.
