Anoskeli is a certified extra virgin olive oil from western Crete, originating from the Kolimvari (Kolymvari) region – one of the most renowned olive oil production areas in Greece. It is an authentic olive oil from Crete, produced on a family estate, where the entire process takes place locally – from the olive tree to the bottle.

P.D.O. Kolimvari certification – a guarantee of origin from Crete

The P.D.O. (Protected Designation of Origin) label is a European system for the protection of regional products. In the case of Anoskeli olive oil, this means that:

  • the olives come exclusively from the Kolimvari region of Crete,
  • cultivation, harvesting, pressing and packaging take place in the same region,
  • production meets the quality specifications approved by the European Union,
  • the character of the oil is directly influenced by the climate, soil and traditions of Crete.

The Kolimvari region is famous for the Koroneiki variety, which produces Greek olive oil with a distinctive aroma, good stability and natural antioxidant content. The P.D.O. Kolimvari certificate confirms the authentic origin of this olive oil from Crete.

Olive cultivation – Crete, tradition and sustainable agriculture

Anoskeli works with over 400 farmers from the Kolimvari region of Crete. The core group consists of 30 producers who cultivate over 30,000 Koroneiki and Tsounati olive trees, producing around 300 tonnes of oil per year.

Cultivation is carried out with respect for the natural environment:

  • improving soil quality,
  • limiting the use of chemicals,
  • rational water management,
  • protection of biodiversity,
  • maintaining stable olive oil production in Crete.

The BIO version is certified organic.

Harvesting and pressing – freshness and quality of extra virgin olive oil

The olive harvest in Crete lasts from October to January. The olives are harvested at the optimum stage of ripeness to obtain the right flavour profile for extra virgin olive oil.

Pressing takes place at a temperature not exceeding 27°C. The olives are taken to the press within a few hours of harvesting, which preserves their freshness, natural polyphenols and vitamin E. This is genuine Greek extra virgin olive oil from Crete, produced under the full control of the manufacturer.

Storage and quality control

Each batch of olive oil from Crete undergoes laboratory tests to determine its quality category. The oil is stored in an underground warehouse at a temperature of around 16°C, in stainless steel tanks with limited oxygen access.

Production is carried out in accordance with the international food safety system FSSC 22000. Each batch is tested for:

  • pesticide residues,
  • heavy metals,
  • contaminants,
  • chemical and sensory parameters.

A boutique winery from Crete

Anoskeli is not only a producer of olive oil from Crete, but also a boutique winery that produces its own highly rated wines from local grape varieties. The estate organises olive oil and wine tastings, showcasing the two pillars of the Cretan diet – extra virgin olive oil and wine.

Every year, the place is visited by over 14,000 guests who learn about the production process of Greek olive oil and Cretan wines and participate in professional tastings.
