One of the most famous herbs in the world, renowned for its medicinal properties, with a history stretching back a thousand years and references in the works of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans!
Chamomile, whose name derives from the Greek words ‘hamai’ and ‘apple’ – meaning ‘apple of the earth’ – is one of the world’s best-known herbs; as well as being used to make a drink, it is a key ingredient in many pharmaceutical and cosmetic products worldwide.
This beautiful flower, resembling a small daisy from southern Europe, was introduced as a weed via its seeds to the Americas and Australia. It is now cultivated in many regions across the globe. The flowers are harvested when they are in full bloom.
