Thyme is an aromatic herb native to the Mediterranean region. It has been known since ancient times. Thyme is used in Mediterranean cuisine as a seasoning, but it can also be used to make an infusion.
Thyme is a honey plant, which is why thyme honey – with its distinctive flavour and colour – is highly prized and well-known in Greece.
The name ‘thyme’ derives from the Greek word ‘thymos’, meaning ‘vital force’.

Uses:

• Thyme is an aromatic, culinary and medicinal plant with antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties
• It acts as a stimulant and tonic for the body, stimulating the nervous system and enhancing mental clarity
• It is used to support the treatment of bronchitis and a severe cough
• It acts as a diaphoretic and as an antiseptic for the intestines, urinary tract and respiratory system
• Baths with thyme are recommended for rheumatic and arthritic conditions
• It relieves toothache and combats gingivitis

Preparation: Pour boiling water over a teaspoon of thyme and leave to infuse, covered, for approx. 10 mins.
